Children between 10 to 12 years experience a crucial developmental phase which pushes them to discover new territories outside their familiar home and school environment. During the “World Around Me” phase, children develop a broader view of life which enables them to grasp social structures and cultural diversity along with human relationships, geographic locations, and the actual workings of the world.

People become more attentive and interested in life as they start to notice their daily encounters. Children at this stage start to transition from passive observation to active exploration of their surroundings. The stage involves discovering new things while they ask questions, gain fresh viewpoints, and develop their self-sufficiency.

• Cultural Curiosity: Initially, children start asking about different nations, their languages, and customs, and the reasons behind people's way of life. Hence, they start to observe cultural distinctions and various community ways of life as they grow up.
• Social Dynamics: At this age, their friendships gain new dimensions. They understand the dynamics of friendships through teamwork and shared responsibilities, which build empathy.
• Societal Connections: They start to see how all parts of society connect together to form a complete system.

• Personal Perspectives: Moreover, children start creating their own viewpoints. The experiences they encounter lead them to develop skills which help them live with awareness, empathy, and an understanding of others.

Families can find support from the Pegasus Children's Wellbeing Circle as they assist their children in navigating the growing and developing phase they are going through. Our Family Support team’s role in this transition is to provide families with reflections, tools, resources, and insight to foster curiosity in the child.
